What Can A Web Site Do For Your Business
by Susan Londell, SML® Design, LLC

Your web site is your "gateway" to the world wide web. Let your web site reflect your values, your personality and your spirit.

  • Consumers search for products and services online before making purchases. Being found on the Internet will give you an advantage over your competition when they call you instead of the competition.

  • You are able to conduct business when it is convenient for your client whether it be during the day or in the middle of the night. You are never actually closed. If you choose an e-commerce website, your customers can shop with you 24 hours.

  • Consumers can become educated about your business and get answers to many of their questions. This will help cut back on the number of phone calls you receive with simple inquiries. You can accomplish this by simply offering information pages and/or Q & A on your site.

  • Your website can provide further support to existing customers by offering information such as troubleshooting procedures, product specification and parts list, how-to procedures, diagrams, and special help lines. By having this help available 24 hours a day you will be able to decrease the number of custom service employees you have on staff.

  • There is potential for your website to become a resource of information for the public. By supplying helpful tips and articles or other data that is relevant to your industry you will have a number of repeat visitors.

  • Consumers have more confidence in and prefer doing business with companies that they know something about. Inform visitors about the structure of your company, of your community involvement, the products and services you offer, awards, and employment opportunities.

  • It gives you instant credibility, providing it is a well developed site. Potential customers expect you to have a web site and are often disappointed if you don’t.

  • It’s where people can immediately get more information about you after being exposed to your company name in a conversation, print ad or on a business card.

  • You can reduce your printing, advertising and direct mail costs. The web is much more cost-effective than print media and best thing of all, is that you could offer more useful, interactive content than in print.

  • You can network with potential customers, and allies all over the world.

  • Sometimes, information changes before it gets off the press leaving you with a pile of expensive, worthless paper. Having a website allows you to make immediate changes. Your web content can always stay up-to-date.

  • You can receive immediate customer feedback about your services or products.

  • If you have a local business or organization, you can expand your customer base by being listed in the "regional" sections of directories like Yahoo and Google.

  • You can open an online store at a fraction of the cost of a "bricks and mortar" store. No rent, utilities and other overhead costs - just photos, detailed product information pages and a user-friendly shopping cart system.

  • Your store is always open, 24 hours a day.
